Beanstalkr’s Chocolate Review
(This is one person’s experience – we all taste differently!)
I am ALL in on whiskey cocktails, so naturally I couldn’t say no to an Old Fashioned inspired chocolate bar. And this particular spin by Irish Chocolate Makers – NearyNógs Stoneground Chocolate – is made with Irish Whiskey of course, and my gosh does it live up to all the expectations.
For us, this bar tasted:
- 🤎 At first bite, you’re hit with the orange, so much so that you could be fooled into thinking it was simply an orange chocolate bar.
- 🤎 And THEN it starts morphing. There’s this nuttiness sneaks that in there (which must be from the Hacienda Limon cacao itself). What’s interesting is that the orange flavor takes a huge step back when the nuttiness comes through (must have a non-compete agreement there).
- 🤎 And then the burnt sugars come through giving you this beautiful, nutty, caramelly flavor.
- 🤎 Finally, the orange comes back a little, not as strong as before, but just a little wave to remind you where this all started.
And throughout, there’s just this really enjoyable underlying hum from the Irish whiskey (think vanilla, possibly even honey), that goes well with that first orange flavor, goes even better with that nuttiness and is glorious with that burnt sugar, caramel, chocolate-y goodness.
(I obviously loved this bar).
For those that don’t drink (and even for those that do) this bar really reminds me of an orange creme brûlée. It must be the combination of vanilla, burnt sugar and the caramel that gets me there.
This is my first chocolate bar made by NearyNógs Stoneground Chocolate and oophf what a start! I cannot recommend their bars more!
