Beanstalkr’s Chocolate Review

(This is one person’s experience – we all taste differently!)

Bon Fiction and their Mango Menace chocolate bar lives up to its name EXACTLY. The mango pieces are oh so mango-y, and then just as you’re getting comfortable “The Menace” rears its head….

And it’s so good.

Confession – I’m disappointing my heritage here, but I never knew chili & tropical fruit was a thing (I write as my mum rolls her eyes at me). And then to showcase the extent of my cluelessness, it turns out chili salted tropical fruit is sold by street vendors all across the tropical belt (where mangoes are grown best!)

They say what grows together, goes together, and Bon-fiction’s combination of mango, chili and cacao has taken it one step further. In fact, it’s one step forward, two steps…. further forward. Here’s why:

  • 🍫 This 55% dark has a slow melt and it starts off with a sweet chocolate-y base, which stands well on its own (without the freeze dried mango)
  • 🍫 When you land on a generous , crunchy chunk of mango, it tastes so vibrant. You’re basically eating the color of the packaging, that golden bronzed orange.
  • 🍫 And just as you’re enjoying it, the heat from the chilli sneaks up on you. It’s pepper-y and it’s definitely “there”. But it doesn’t escalate. I’ve had a few pieces and the spice level is extremely even.
  • 🍫 Finally, once that piece has slowly melted away, you’re left with this underrated combination of sweet, spicy and ever so slight savouriness that is effortlessly basking in chocolate.

The Mango Menace – 55% India

Bon-Fiction are a small batch tree-to-bar maker in India.

They grow their own cacao, handpick the cacao pods and turn the cacao beans within into single-origin chocolate. I knew I’d learn a lot from their processes, I didn’t expect to learn so much from this menacing flavor combo.
