Explore the vibrant art history of chocolate from Mesoamerica to Spain in this internationally available online class.

Journey through the evolution of cacao in culture and art, from ancient Mesoamerican vessels and jars to Spanish tile murals. This is the first class in a four part series.

Sections include:

Vessels and Jars: Discover ceramic artifacts, their ritual use, and cacao residue evidence.

Sculptures: Examine representations of cacao in ritual and social contexts.

Codices: Analyze historic texts and art that chronicle chocolate’s significance.

Molinillos: Learn about the intricate wooden frothing tool invented in Mesoamerica and adapted in Spain through historical engravings and art.

Tile Murals: See how chocolate culture transformed visual arts in Spanish society.
