Craft Chocolate All Wrapped Up

Finding food through chocolate

So we’re writing this one on the back of the chocolate making post (if you haven’t read it yet check it out here).

Admittedly, our brains went a bit haywire and while we wanted to share these thoughts, we felt it needed it’s own space to sweat in its own juices.

Basically whenever you see “Chocolate Coated Thoughts”… prepare for a tangent or three. We’re finding food through finding chocolate, and if you’re here and reading this we hope you come along for what we hope is a mind blowing ride.

SO

After all of that chocolate making, the one thing we keep coming back to is:

The chocolate food chain is so long and murky.

And we’re so far removed from the process that we didn’t even know what a cacao bean or cacao pod was.

Chocolate comes in a wrapper and is advertised using molten chocolate and chocolate makers. That’s it.

Not the cacao trees.

Not the cacao farms.

Very rarely the cacao beans.

Which is a shame because there are so many talented people that are completing some amazing stages of chocolate making before we can even get our hands on it.

And it may have meant that a lot of us have assumed that fancy commercial chocolate is peak chocolate. The best of the best. But we don’t think it is….

Now that we know about the amazing stages the cacao farmers and the chocolate makers go through, that means we’re all set to get into flavours. Flavours are the one thing that, until recently, the big commercial chocolate makers have never, ever talked about.

And that’s why we’re here! And we’ll release some insights on this soon.

But for now we reckon it could be nice to take our time with something.

We’re always in “rush mode”, surrounded by busy-ness. Instead think about something that you could give some proper time and focus to. Maybe you’ll try your hand at chocolate making, maybe even just craft chocolate tasting.

Could even be something entirely unrelated! Maybe the shed needs a good organising….

But whatever it is, give it all the time it needs because we don’t know about you, but that’s not really something we get to do, or even think about doing.

It might be nice 😊

Thanks for talking beans with us and hopefully we’ll see ya soon!
